You may have obtained some automatic Medical Insurance Cover when you purchased your air ticket on your credit card. Or you have purchased separate Medical Insurance cover for your trip.
It is of the utmost importance that we advise inbound travellers of the practice referred to below to ensure that our clients have proper cover in place.
Here are some facts:
- Many medical facilities in Southern Africa will not admit foreign travellers, irrespective of their Travel Insurance arrangements. Overseas visitors to Southern Africa are being turned away at major medical facilities unless some form of substantial cash payment is made upfront for treatment.
- The reason for this is that there is an endless amount of red-tape which medical institutions in South Africa are subjected to in endeavouring to recover their costs from overseas based Travel Insurance Companies. The policy of pay-now, claim-later is widely adopted throughout the Southern African region.
